Chateau Venus Sweets and The Book of Jenna are two ‘zines I created over the summer and fall of 2023 under the multidisciplinary project Cabaret Venus Sweets: a story about 972 Saint Catherine West. They both tell, from different perspectives, the history of the address 972 Ste Catherine Ouest
Chateau Venus Sweets uses newspaper archives, fire insurance and land use maps, matchbooks and autoethnography to tell the story of this location.
The Book of Jenna is an oral history of the location told by this legendary Montreal stripper.
The paper copies of these ‘zines include the enlarged matchbook covers that are also available for download. The ‘zines, when printed, are 4.5 by 6. The enlarged matchbooks covers are an homage to the matchbook cover for the stripclub Chateau du Sexe, where both Jenna and I worked in the
‘80s and ‘90s.
